Quality health care is getting the care you need, when you need it. Getting quality health care can help you stay healthy or recover when you become sick.

How should the patient survey results be used?

Patients with better health care experiences often have better health outcomes. The patient survey results can be used to get a better understanding of how a primary care practice treats their patients, and to help people decide where to go to get the kind of they want.

What are patient survey results?

Some patients are asked to complete a survey about the care they received during their last visit to their primary care doctor. The survey asks about experiences that should be part of every visit:

• Getting Care When Needed: Sometimes it's important to see or talk to your doctor or nurse quickly. Patients report about their experiences scheduling appointments when needed, if their visit started on time, and getting timely answers when calling about questions.

• Good Communication: It's important for doctors to clearly explain a medical problem and for patients to understand what they need to do to take charge of their health. Patients report if their doctor knows their medical history, treats them with respect, gives them time and attention, listens carefully, and explains things clearly.

• Courteous and Helpful Office Staff: Office staff is there to assist patients with their visit and quickly and privately inform patients how to handle the necessary paperwork. Patients report if the primary care office staff was helpful and courteous during their last doctor's visit.
